In this third post of our series on Hidden Medicine, we explore a crucial theme introduced in the book: the hidden costs of remaining unaware of the spiritual realities affecting our lives.

The chapter titled “What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You,” challenges us to confront the dangers of ignorance and the unseen battles that influence our well-being.

The Invisible War

Whether we realize it or not, we are participants in a cosmic war between good and evil. This battle is not merely philosophical or abstract—it plays out in the physical and emotional struggles we face every day. I present evidence arguing that many of the challenges we experience in life, including illness, stem from this unseen conflict.

By remaining blind to the spiritual dimension of life, we may unwittingly allow malevolent forces to harm us. As I often tell my patients, “You didn’t pick this fight, but you’re in it nonetheless.”

The Costs of Ignorance

The primary danger of spiritual ignorance is vulnerability. Without recognizing the spiritual roots of certain struggles, we rely solely on material solutions—medication, therapy, or lifestyle changes—that, while helpful, may not fully address the problem.

I liken this to fighting a war without understanding the enemy. Just as soldiers need intelligence about their opponents, we need awareness of the spiritual forces that influence our lives. Otherwise, we risk becoming casualties in a battle we didn’t even know we were fighting.

Identifying Open Doors

One of the most compelling insights in this chapter is the concept of “open doors.” Certain behaviors, experiences, or traumas can create vulnerabilities that allow malevolent spiritual forces to enter our lives. These open doors may include:

• Trauma: Unresolved emotional wounds can create a foothold for spiritual interference.

• Addictions: Substance abuse and other destructive habits can invite negative influences.

• Occult Practices: Engaging with the occult, even casually, can expose individuals to spiritual harm.

• Negative Thought Patterns: Persistent anger, bitterness, or fear can create an environment where spiritual enemies thrive.

Spiritual Blindness

Invisible malevolent spiritual entities often work by keeping people spiritually blind. This blindness can manifest as skepticism, distraction, or a refusal to confront uncomfortable truths. In this state, individuals may misattribute their struggles to purely physical or psychological causes, missing the deeper, spiritual factors at play.

Moving Toward Healing

While the idea of unseen enemies may feel overwhelming, there is hope. Awareness is the first step to healing. Once we recognize the spiritual dimensions of our struggles, we can begin to address them with the appropriate tools, which I explore in later chapters.

Reflection

The message is clear: Ignorance is not bliss. The unseen forces influencing our lives will continue to afflict us unless we actively confront them. But with awareness, faith, and determination, we can close the doors that allow these forces entry and reclaim our health and peace of mind.
